how to get started with spark ar studio

Creating Instagram filters with Spark AR Studio is relatively easy. Multiple resources and a supportive community help you get started without any hiccups.

Here is a simple roadmap that will help you get started.

Get Spark AR Studio

No software, no outcome.

Install Spark AR Studio & create a Facebook account if you haven’t already.

Make sure your desktop can run the latest version of Spark AR. It is also a good idea to invest in a webcam if you want to create filters as a side gig.

You can also create a Facebook page and link that to your Instagram account.

Next, download Spark AR Player on your desktop — this allows you to test your filters on a full screen.

Join the Spark AR Community

You can find all your answers on Spark AR Community.

This Facebook group will answer all your questions and help you learn about new updates or features.

You can also get inspired by creations of other creators, but do keep in mind not to get demotivated — you are just getting started, so don’t feel bad if your filters don’t look as good as others.

Eddy Adams’ Spark AR Masterclass

To anyone getting started, this is it.

The Spark AR Masterclass helps you figure out the software as well as understand the basics of designing inside the Studio.

It is the simplest way to get into the ecosystem, without getting lost in the plethora of courses and tutorials out there.

You can also check out his asset pack on Gumroad to unlock content you can use in your filters.

YouTube tutorials

We highly recommend that you get into YouTube tutorials once you are done with the Masterclass.

But if you feel like you can follow a tutorial step-by-step and figure things out, then that’s not bad!

There are plenty of channels you can follow for tutorials, here are some of our favourites:

  1. Josh Beckwith
  2. Varun Raikar
  3. Ben Marriott
  4. Maru Studio
  5. DJS Creates
  6. The Creative Catalyst
  7. Emiliusvgs

If you are looking for tutorials on a particular filter, then you can ask about it in the Spark AR Community.

There will be times when the tutorials are not in your native language, so you’ll have to rely on subtitles or follow the screen.

Closing thoughts

These steps will get you up to date on Spark AR Studio.

Do note that some filters require scripting. This is your call to learn JavaScript.

Since Spark AR keeps releasing new features, you will have to keep learning to improve your craft.
